How do you keep track of college clothes and belongings?

Part Two of the “Getting Ready for School” Series

For some college students, their school clothing has been labeled by parents and caregivers since kindergarten in an effort to reduce loss.  As students mature and move on to college, the cute and colorful personalized labels are no longer appropriate, but the need to keep track of bedding, clothes, shoes and other valuable items is just as important for these young adults.

An easy and fun, yet discreet, method of labeling items is to use snap-on clothing tags.  These are small round tags which look similar to a button, and can be attached in seconds using an applicator to any care tag, or even the seam of a piece of clothing or linens.  Etched with a name, they do not fall off in the laundry and can even be removed if clothing is going to be passed on to someone else.  It’s an easy way to check whether an item belongs to the right person without having an obvious, boldly printed label!

Your student may also have some precious items where a traditional label is still the best option.  For example a cozy blanket brought from home, sentimental soft furnishings, or that expensive dress or jacket bought for special occasions!  A simple and elegant sewing label can be stitched onto an item in just moments, and will look like part of the item.

For those students who find sewing daunting,  iron-on standard labels are a good solution. They are easy to apply with a basic household iron, are easy to read, and are durable in the laundry, including commercial machines.  These labels can be quickly applied to discreet spots inside garments with a smooth fabric.

If your student isn’t handy with a needle and thread or an iron, and wants a completely pain-free way to label an item of clothing, a peel and stick-on label  is the perfect option.  (Designed to stick to polyester, just peel off a label and stick it to the satin “care label” found inside most clothes.)

College students who are involved with music, sports and other extra-curricular activities will no doubt have valuable instruments and sports equipment to keep track of.  Music cases, helmets, and other items can all look the same, so a small label for identification can relieve the stress of mix-ups with friends and team mates.  Any items with a smooth, hard surface would benefit from one of our stick-on labels .
